Thank you for visiting our site! The I-95 Corridor Transportation Study is being conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Office of Transportation Planning. The purpose of this planning study is to evaluate and address transportation issues in the I-95 and Route 1 corridors through the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization regions. Draft versions of the study architecture, existing conditions and future conditions reports are available by visiting the Documents Section.
Thank you to everyone who attended the second round of public informational meetings on December 15th & 16th. Materials from the meetings, including the presentation of developed alternatives, are available in the Meeting Materials section of the site.
Current improvements to I-95/Route 128 through Dedham and Westwood under construction, combined with plans for an improved I-95/I-93 interchange in Canton, have the potential to change travel patterns and encourage further growth in the communities along I-95 south of Route 128, which has been a high-growth area of the Commonwealth. The Department of Transportation has commissioned the I-95 South Corridor Transportation Study to undertake a broad, comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the long-term impact that potential growth would have on the region’s transportation infrastructure.
MassDOT’s Office of Transportation Planning is conducting a comprehensive study of the I-95 and Route 1 Corridors that will examine and recommend ways to improve overall transportation mobility for residents, businesses, and visitors, while minimizing impacts to neighborhoods and communities.
A full range of alternatives will be developed and analyzed as the study progresses. This range includes transportation demand management and other "non-highway" options in addition to potential roadway improvements. A recommended plan of short-term and long-term improvements – based on the alternatives analysis and the collective input of many stakeholders – will be the end product of this study.
